W czerwcu 2010 r. firma Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Ltd. po raz pierwszy zorganizowała "Smart Grid Exhibition". W tym roku w dniach 30 maja - 1 czerwca odbyła się kolejna edycja wystawcy. Spotkanie zorganizowano w Tokyo Big Sight.
Równolegle ze "Smart Grid Exhibition 2012" odbywały się"Automotive NEXT Industry Fair 2012", "Biomass Expo 2012" oraz "Fourth International Magnesium Expo".
W trakcie spotkania około 300 firm krajowych i zagranicznych zaprezentowało najnowsze produkty i technologie z zakresu: inteligentnych liczników (smart meters), HEM (Home Energy Management Systems), fotowoltaiki (PV), biomasy, energii wiatrowej, energii geotermalnej, pojazdów elektrycznych (EV).
Imprezom towarzyszyła konferencja "Smart Community Summit 2012", której organizatorami byli: New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan Smart Community Alliance（JSCA）oraz Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Ltd.
W "Smart Grid Exhibition 2012" wzięło udział 288 firm. Powstało 596 stoisk. W 2011 r. wystawiało się 208 firmy na 561 stoiskach.
